Peter Psquare, one-half of the iconic Nigerian music duo Psquare, shared a compelling post on X at 12:00 UTC on May 4, 2025, advocating for VeryDarkMan’s release. The post includes three images that capture the activist’s journey and impact. The first image features a shirtless VeryDarkMan with the bold text “VERY DARK MAN: THE VOICE OF THE VOICELESS,” emphasizing his role as an advocate for the marginalized. He’s adorned with layered necklaces and a white skirt, showcasing a strong, cultural aesthetic.

VeryDarkMan, whose real name is Martins Vincent Otse, has been a prominent figure in Nigerian activism, often using social media to call out corruption and injustice. However, his outspoken nature has led to multiple arrests. According to a Legit.ng report from June 30, 2024, VeryDarkMan was arrested by the Nigerian Police on orders from the Police Commissioner of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Command, for allegedly exposing a Nigerian who duped someone abroad. This arrest, along with his most recent one on May 3, 2025, outside a GTBank branch over unauthorized deductions from his mother’s account, has fueled public outrage.

The #FreeVDM movement has gained momentum as fans and supporters argue that VeryDarkMan’s arrests are an attempt to silence his activism. Peter Psquare’s involvement marks a significant moment, as he becomes one of the first major music celebrities to publicly support the cause, as noted by a fan, @familyman018, who commented, “The First music celebrity to post #FreeVDM ✊🏾 💪🏽 God bless you Mr P we await others.”

VeryDarkMan has built a reputation as a fearless advocate for the marginalized, often referred to as “The Voice of the Voiceless,” as highlighted in Peter Psquare’s post. A Modern Ghana article from October 15, 2024, describes his meteoric rise in the Nigerian activism space, noting his ability to inspire millions through authenticity and trust. His recent launch of an NGO, which raised over ₦21 million in donations within 24 hours, further cements his influence and the trust people place in his advocacy.
