Peacemaker separating fight punched to death in Adamawa
A man trying to make peace, Markus Dali, was tragically punched to death while intervening in a fight in Adamawa State. The attacker has been charged with culpable homicide.
A tragic incident in Adamawa State has claimed the life of Markus Dali, a man who was attempting to make peace between two fighting individuals. Dali, a resident of Sina Kwande community in Michika Local Government Area, stepped in to break up a brawl between Barka Yama and Alex Tari. In a cruel twist, he became the victim of the altercation when Barka Yama allegedly landed a fatal punch on him.
According to police reports, the deadly confrontation occurred on August 30, 2024. After intervening, Markus was struck by Yama, causing him to collapse and lose consciousness. He was rushed to the hospital, where a medical doctor confirmed his death.
Following his arrest, the 32-year-old Barka Yama was arraigned before Chief Magistrate Court I in Yola on a charge of culpable homicide. The prosecutor, ASP Francis Audu, revealed that the defendant pleaded guilty to the crime. The court, presided over by Chief Magistrate Muhammed Njidda, ordered Yama to be remanded in a correctional facility pending further legal advice from the Department of Public Prosecution.
This heartbreaking case underscores the dangers faced by those who step in to prevent violence, with a peacemaker tragically losing his life in an effort to stop a fight.
