The final chapter of Onyeka Onwenu's remarkable life comes to a close today as the iconic singer, affectionately known as the Elegant Stallion, is laid to rest in Lagos. A beloved figure in Nigeria’s music industry, Onwenu’s sudden passing on July 30 sent shockwaves across the nation. The legendary singer reportedly collapsed and passed away at Reddington Hospital in Ikeja shortly after gracing the stage at Dr. Stella Okoli's birthday celebration, a moment that would unexpectedly become her last public performance.
The day begins with a Service of Songs at the Fountain of Life Church in Ilupeju, where friends, family, and fans will gather to honor her life and legacy. The service, scheduled from ten in the morning to noon, is expected to be filled with heartfelt tributes, as those who knew her best reflect on the powerful impact she had both on and off the stage.
Following the Service of Songs, a private burial will take place from two to four in the afternoon at a vault in Ikoyi, marking the final resting place of the woman whose voice and spirit touched so many lives.
