Ondo Amotekun arrests, parades 27 suspected criminals
Amotekun Corps in Ondo State parades 27 suspected criminals, including kidnappers and motorcycle thieves, vowing to maintain peace and enhance security across the region.
Operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, commonly known as Amotekun Corps, held a press conference on Monday to unveil 27 suspected criminals linked to various offenses terrorizing the state. This includes four individuals suspected of kidnapping and motorcycle theft.
During the event at Amotekun's headquarters in Alagbaka, Akure, Chairman Adetunji Adeleye emphasized the Corps' unwavering commitment to maintaining peace and security across Ondo State. "Today, we are presenting 27 individuals who have been involved in numerous security breaches. While we acknowledge some incidents, overall, the security situation in the state remains stable," he stated.
Adeleye detailed that 22 suspects were apprehended for violations of law and order during the reporting period, with issues surrounding land and chieftaincy largely resolved. Notably, out of six reported cases of clashes between farmers and herders, five have been successfully settled, and the remaining case will proceed to court.
Among the notable arrests was Michael Ojo, a key player in a criminal syndicate notorious for targeting motorcycle riders. He was captured after extensive investigations that traced him across multiple states, including Kogi and Edo. "Michael has admitted to stealing numerous motorcycles, claiming he lost track of how many he has taken. He typically operates in Akure before moving to Uso or Ogbese, dismantling the bikes and selling them for as little as N30,000 to N50,000," Adeleye revealed.
In addition to Ojo, four suspects linked to kidnapping activities in the Ikakumo-Akoko region were also presented. The Corps assured the public that these measures demonstrate their ongoing efforts to combat crime and foster a safer environment for all residents of Ondo State.
