Omah Lay calls out colleague for stealing his album idea
Omah Lay accuses a fellow artist of stealing his album concept, leading him to re-record what he believes will be the greatest album in Afrobeats history.
Nigerian singer Omah Lay has revealed that a fellow artist, with whom he had initially planned to collaborate, allegedly stole the concept for his upcoming album. During an interview on the Zach Sang Show, Omah Lay shared that he had discussed his new sound and creative direction with this unnamed artist, only to later discover that the artist had released an album using the very ideas he had shared.
Omah Lay explained that the betrayal forced him to re-record his album. “My song ‘Holy Ghost’ represents a new sound I was exploring,” he said. “Originally, I intended to base my entire album on this sound, but after what happened, I had to rethink everything.”
He continued, “This artist approached me for a collaboration, and being a fan of his work, I agreed. I trusted him enough to share my vision for the album. But five months later, he released an album that mirrored exactly what I had shared with him.”
Despite the setback, Omah Lay is confident that his reworked album will be groundbreaking. “I had to start over, but it was worth it. This album is going to be the greatest in Afrobeats history.”
