NYSC DG Explains Delay in Corps Members' Allowance Increase

The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed, has stated that the increase in corps members' allowances hasn't been implemented yet because the government hasn't released the necessary funds.

The Federal Government had approved raising the monthly allowance from N33,000 to N77,000, effective July 2024. This was confirmed by the National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission in a letter dated September 25, 2024, signed by its Chairman, Ekpo Nta.

Despite the announcement, corps members didn’t receive the new allowance in September. Speaking to the BBC Hausa Service, Ahmed explained that the government is yet to release funds for both the corps members' allowance and the salary increase for NYSC staff, which was approved months ago.

He expressed optimism that the payments will be made soon, though the exact timing is uncertain
