NLC President, Ajaero turns down Police invitation, gives reason
NLC President Joe Ajaero declines a Nigeria Police invitation over allegations including terrorism financing and treason, citing prior engagements and late notice from the police.
Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President, Joe Ajaero, has declined an invitation from the Nigeria Police Force, citing prior commitments. Ajaero's refusal was conveyed through a letter from his legal representatives, Falana and Falana Chambers, in which they explained that the notice was received too late for him to make adjustments to his schedule.
The police had summoned Ajaero on allegations including criminal conspiracy, terrorism financing, treasonable felony, subversion, and cybercrime. However, in a letter addressed to the Inspector General of Police, Ajaero’s lawyers highlighted that the invitation arrived only a day before the scheduled meeting, making it impossible for him to attend.
The letter stated, “We represent the Nigeria Labour Congress and its President, Joe Ajaero, and we are writing on their behalf regarding the matter at hand. Mr. Ajaero regrets that he cannot honor your invitation on Tuesday, August 20, as he only received your letter yesterday and has a prior engagement that was scheduled before your invitation was received.”
This response underscores the challenges of coordinating such legal proceedings amidst conflicting obligations, as Ajaero remains engaged with his duties at the NLC.
