Nigeria’s National Grid Collapses for the Eighth Time in 2024
Nigeria faces another national grid collapse on October 14, 2024, causing widespread power outages. Electricity distribution companies are working to restore supply
Nigeria was plunged into darkness again on Monday, October 14, 2024, after the national power grid collapsed at around 6:48 pm. Several electricity distribution companies confirmed the system failure, affecting numerous states.
The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) issued a statement explaining the widespread power outage in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo States, attributing it to the grid collapse. They are currently awaiting updates from the National Control Centre in Osogbo regarding restoration efforts.
The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company and Kano Disco also notified their customers, assuring them that power would be restored soon. Kano Disco urged customers to remain vigilant in safeguarding electrical infrastructure from vandals. This is the eighth grid collapse in 2024, with the last occurring in July.
