Nigerians aren’t treated nice when travelling; Omah Lay laments

Nigerian singer, songwriter, and record producer Stanley Omah Didia, popularly known as Omah Lay, has voiced his frustration over the unfair treatment Nigerians face when traveling internationally. The artist, who has gained global recognition for his hit songs, revealed a recurring issue that has left him feeling disheartened and not publicly been loved to be from Nigeria.  According to Omah Lay, Nigerian travelers are often subjected to excessive scrutiny and stress at immigration checkpoints, unlike other passengers from neighboring countries.

Omah Lay shared that whenever he travels out of Nigeria, the immigration officers are particularly harsh and unaccommodating. "The immigration are so mean anytime you show them you are a Nigerian," he lamented. He pointed out that this treatment is not just a one-off incident but a pattern that he and many other Nigerians experience. The artist highlighted the unnecessary challenges Nigerians face while traveling, simply because of their nationality, leading to feelings of discrimination and unfairness.

Omah Lay further explained that the situation only changes when the immigration officers realize his celebrity status. "I am not always treated right until they discover I am Omah Lay," he said, indicating that his fame often becomes his only escape from the harsh treatment. This revelation sheds more light on biases that exist against Nigerians, even for those who have achieved international fame and success.

The singer's experience sheds light on a broader issue that many ordinary Nigerians face daily. While his fame may eventually grant him better treatment, the majority of Nigerians do not have the same privilege, leading to an unnecessary stress and frustration during international travel.
