Nigerian Super Eagles Held at Libyan Airport

Nigerian football players and staff, including Super Eagles team members, were detained by Libyan authorities at Al-Abaq airport. The team’s travel plans were disrupted when their flight, originally bound for Benghazi, was diverted.

The Super Eagles had traveled to Libya for the second leg of their AFCON qualifier after a 1-0 victory over Libya’s Mediterranean Knights in Nigeria, with Fisayo Dele Bashiru scoring the only goal.

After departing from Uyo with a stopover in Kano, the team initially planned to fly to Tripoli, followed by a two-hour drive to Benghazi. To avoid the strain of the road journey, they decided to fly directly to Benghazi instead.

However, their flight was unexpectedly redirected to Al-Abaq, two hours from their intended destination, and the team has since been held at the airport. A video circulating online confirmed the situation.
