Nigerian Civil Defence Officer Arrested for Crime case
An NSCDC officer was recently caught supplying bandits with weapons and drugs.
On a related note about the simmering security trouble in Zamfara, Nigeria, an NSCDC officer was recently caught supplying bandits with weapons and drugs. The officer, ASC Maikano Sarkin-Tasha, was arrested with anti-aircraft rockets, AK-47 bullets, and consignments of drugs intended to supply the criminals in the region. He stated that he had been in this black market as a transporter for the past two years with the help of one Aminu Musa of the NSCDC.
The arrest was one among other actions that were instituted by law enforcement agencies, especially to front the rising dominance of bandits in Zamfara State. Apart from Sarkin-Tasha, other people connected to the supply chain were apprehended too –. In their lists of arrests was a quack doctor, Mamuda Sani Makakari, who was accused of treating the bandits and was produced before the court wrapped in bandages with 441 live rounds of ammunition. Also, two bandits’ wives were also arrested, which shows the high family tree influence of the criminal organization.
This arrest is considered a positive development in combating the issue of the supply of arms and narcotics to the bandits that have contributed to worsening the security situation in Zamfara and neighbouring regions. Police operations are ongoing, and more arrests will be made as police step up its crackdown against these supply networks.
This has led to a high level of concern among the Nigerian population because it creates doubt about the security agencies' integrity when such internal betrayals occur. This also serves to point out the further requirements for the establishment of reforms and enhanced supervision within the security forces so that a repeat of such incidences may not be witnessed.
