The Nigerian Army has confirmed an investigation into an alleged assault involving Major General G.S. Mohammed and his aide, Corporal A. Abubakar, after a video surfaced showing them attacking a couple, Mr. Vershima Mker and Ms. Lami Jennifer Iorvihi, in Abuja.
The incident reportedly followed a road altercation in the Federal Capital Territory when Mr. Mker overtook the officer’s vehicle. According to the couple, Major General Mohammed stopped them, dragged them out of their car, and subjected them to physical abuse. They further alleged that the officer and his aide handcuffed them, forced them into the trunk of a vehicle, and transported them to Gwarimpa Police Station, where they were detained on the General’s orders.
In response to the viral video shared by SaharaReporters, the Army’s spokesperson, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, stated that the Chief of Army Staff has ordered a full investigation into the matter. However, he emphasized that the details leading to the altercation remain unclear and that the Army is working to verify the authenticity of the footage.
“The Chief of Army Staff has directed that we investigate this incident to ascertain the veracity of the claims,” Nwachukwu noted, adding that further actions would depend on the outcome of the inquiry.
