Nigeria police deactivated planted bomb
Few hours to the #endbadgovernance in Nigeria protest, the nation's police has discovered a bomb in Lagos.
On Wednesday, at the outer gate of the Nigeria Customs Service's Federal Operations Unit (FOU) in Ikeja, Lagos, a suspicious device that was later confirmed as an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was found. This finding has been made just before a countrywide demonstration against economic hardship set to occur from August 1 to August 10, 2024.
Eyewitnesses claim that an anonymous person drove up to the site in a car, dropped down the IED, and then swiftly left. The suspect was first observed by a police officer employed at the Explosive Ordinance Depot (EOD) Base in Ikeja. The suspect was observed parking an unregistered Toyota Corolla close to the entrance of the PMF 23 barracks on Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, Ikeja.
Adegoke Fayoade, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, verified the occurrence to newsmen. Speaking through Benjamin Hundeyin, the Public Relations Officer for the Command, Fayoade stated that the officer who saw the suspect is employed by the Police Explosives Ordinance Depot (EOD) base in Ikeja. According to the head of Lagos State Police, the suspect parked his unregistered Toyota Corolla near the PMF 23 barracks gate on the main road. A young male was seen by the officer getting out of the automobile and dropping a bag carefully on the side of the FOU Zone A fence. After getting back into his car, the young man drove off. A group of EOD-CBRN specialists from the base promptly mobilized to the scene in response to the report.
"It was verified upon delivery that the item is, in fact, an IED. The location was then roped off, the IED rendered safe, and it was detonated appropriately after that.
In the interim, the IED's remnants were gathered for more examination and research," he continued.
