NDLEA seizes 1,045kg of illicit substances, arrests 420 suspects in Kaduna
In the third quarter of 2024, the Kaduna State NDLEA seized over 1,045 kg of drugs and arrested 420 suspects. The agency also recovered firearms and is focused on rehabilitation efforts.
The Kaduna State command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has made significant strides in combating drug-related crimes, seizing an impressive 1,045.93 kilograms of illicit substances and arresting 420 individuals in the third quarter of 2024. This information was revealed by NDLEA commander Samaila Danmalam during a press briefing on Thursday.
Among those apprehended, 404 were males and 16 were females, encompassing a range of drug dealers, users, and traffickers. The seized drugs included a variety of dangerous substances, such as cocaine, cannabis sativa, Rohypnol, Tramadol, methamphetamine, and other psychotropic drugs.
In addition to these drug busts, the agency recovered 1,393 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition and four locally-made firearms during their operations. Danmalam noted that 30 drug offenders have been successfully convicted, while 54 others face charges, with ongoing investigations for several cases.
Highlighting the agency's commitment to rehabilitation, Danmalam mentioned that NDLEA has counseled 50 drug users and successfully rehabilitated another 50 individuals struggling with drug dependence, aiding their reintegration into society. He urged community members to provide timely and valuable information to bolster efforts in the fight against drug abuse.
