National Grid: AEDC restores power after major outage

Power has been restored to some areas served by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) following a widespread outage caused by a national grid collapse on Monday evening. The blackout, which left several regions across Nigeria without electricity, affected areas such as Dei-Dei, Suleja, Lugbe, Kuje, and their surroundings.

By early Tuesday morning, around 5:15 a.m., electricity was restored to certain parts of the AEDC service areas, providing relief to residents who had endured the blackout. AEDC had earlier informed its customers about the outage, attributing it to a grid failure that occurred around 6:58 p.m. on Monday. In a message shared via its X handle, AEDC reassured the public that efforts were underway, in collaboration with relevant stakeholders, to stabilize the grid and restore power to all affected areas.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) confirmed that the grid collapse was partial, with no load allocation to the country’s eleven electricity distribution companies at the time of the failure. TCN spokesperson Ndidi Mbah noted that the company had commenced system recovery processes to restore power nationwide. Enugu Electricity Distribution Company and Eko Electricity Distribution Company also confirmed the collapse, while TCN continues working to restore stability across the grid.

This incident is another reminder of the fragile state of Nigeria’s power infrastructure, as authorities scramble to address grid failures that impact millions of people across the country.
