My son breaks the TV when he’s angry – Bovi
Bovi reveals his son used to break TVs in anger, advocating for gentle parenting over physical discipline, sparking mixed reactions from Nigerians.
Nigerian comedian and actor, Bovi Ugbomma, has sparked conversation after revealing his unconventional parenting approach while recounting how his son used to vent his anger by breaking televisions.
Speaking on the Honest Bunch Podcast with Nedu, Bovi shared his stance against physical discipline, advocating instead for gentle parenting. Using his own experience as an example, he explained how his son, Chuchu, would react in frustration by throwing objects and smashing TVs—an issue that eventually resolved as the child grew older and began to show remorse.
“I don’t advocate for beating children. You should let children be. My son Chuchu used to break televisions for the fun of it. If he got angry, he’d throw stuff and break the TV. It got to the age where I saw the remorse. He’s broken three televisions. Thank God for capacity. If I couldn’t afford another TV, then the approach would have been different.”
Bovi’s comments, however, triggered mixed reactions among Nigerians. Many criticized the comedian for enabling destructive behavior and failing to teach his son emotional control, while others debated the effectiveness of gentle parenting in such scenarios.
The revelation has reignited conversations about modern parenting methods and the balance between understanding children and instilling discipline.
