Mummy Wa laments sexual harassment ordeal in Nollywood
Actress Kemi Ikuseedun, aka Mummy Wa, shares her experience with sexual harassment in Nollywood, revealing the pressure for favors she faced while building her career.
Nigerian skit maker and actress Kemi Ikuseedun, better known as Mummy Wa, recently opened up about her unsettling experiences with sexual harassment in the film industry. During a candid conversation on the ‘WithChude’ podcast hosted by Chude Jideonwo, she revealed the challenges she faced while trying to break into the industry.
Mummy Wa, who gained fame in 2023 through her appearances in Mr Macaroni’s skits, shared that many filmmakers made unwanted sexual advances, demanding favors in exchange for roles. Reflecting on the situation, she said, "A lot of people are asking for things that I cannot do. How many people do I want to sleep with? Even if you do, sometimes it still won’t guarantee your success."
She highlighted how no woman in the industry is immune to these advances, emphasizing, "Even the slim ones without anything are still being asked for favors." Despite the pressure, she made it clear that compromising her values is not an option for her.
