Mother, three children die from alleged food poisoning in Kwara
A tragic food poisoning incident in Ilorin, Kwara State, has claimed the lives of a mother and her three children after consuming suspected poisoned rice. The family’s father remains hospitalized as the community mourns the devastating loss.
In a heartbreaking incident in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State, a mother and her three children tragically lost their lives, reportedly due to food poisoning. The family, who resided in the Oshin area along Asa-Dam Road, consumed a meal of rice on a Saturday morning that is suspected to have been tainted.
The father of the family, known locally as Alfa Ahmad, remains hospitalized as he battles the effects of the poisoning. The tragedy began when the family's eldest daughter, Abibat, fell ill and was rushed to the hospital, where she sadly passed away. Later that night, upon returning home, the parents found their two other children, Zainab and Abdulfatah, suffering from severe vomiting. The children were taken to the hospital, where their conditions deteriorated rapidly.
By Monday, August 19th, 2024, the mother and the two remaining children had also succumbed to the poisoning, all passing away at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH). Their bodies have since been prepared for burial at the Muslim Cemetery in Ilorin, while the father continues to receive medical care. This tragedy has left the local community in deep mourning, as they come to terms with the sudden loss of an entire family.
