Meet Atagungun: The Rising Star of Fuji Classical Music

Akeem Ayinde, popularly known as Atagungun, is one of the promising young talents shaping the future of Fuji music. Hailing from the historic city of Ibadan, Oyo State, Atagungun is carving a niche for himself with his unique style of Fuji, which he calls “Fuji Classical.”

Speaking about his journey into music, Atagungun revealed that his passion for the art form and the deep philosophy embedded in Fuji music inspired him to pursue this path. “My passion drives me into music. I’ve loved music since my childhood and always dreamed of making a career out of it. For me, Fuji music is about the philosophy of life. Thank God the dream is gradually coming into reality,” he shared.

Despite his determination, the path to success has not been without challenges. Reflecting on his struggles, Atagungun admitted, “It wasn’t easy starting out. New artists rarely get the chance to showcase their talents. You just have to keep pushing and not lose hope. Funding is another issue—renting or buying instruments can be a big hurdle. During shows, we also face trouble from area boys who often demand money, and if we don’t comply, they sometimes resort to violence.”

Atagungun draws inspiration from his mentor, Fuji legend Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde Marshal. He describes his brand of Fuji as “Fuji Classical,” emphasizing that his exceptional voice and impressive dancing skills distinguish him from others in the industry.

With his resilience and talent, Atagungun is undoubtedly a rising star to watch in the evolving world of Fuji music.
