Man abducts, kills petty trader to avoid payment of N40,000 debt in Nasarawa
Two men arrested in Nasarawa for the abduction and murder of trader Felicia Namkywa, lured under false pretenses and robbed of N555,000. Her remains were later recovered.
The Nasarawa State Police Command has apprehended two men, Abubakar Ibrahim and Isah Ayuba, in connection with the abduction and murder of Felicia Namkywa, a petty trader in the Obi Local Government Area. The arrest followed a detailed investigation by detectives from the Obi Division after a report was filed regarding Namkywa’s disappearance.
According to DSP Ramhan Nansel, the Police Public Relations Officer of Nasarawa State, the investigation revealed that one of the suspects, who owed Namkywa N40,000, lured her to a Fulani settlement under the guise of selling grains. Unbeknownst to her, the suspects had orchestrated a deadly plot to rob her of her business capital.
"The victim was lured through a phone call to one of the settlements (Ruga) in the area, unaware of the sinister plan to end her life and take her money," Nansel explained.
Upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to kidnapping Namkywa, taking her deep into the forest, and strangling her to death. They later disposed of her body in a swamp and stole N555,000 she had on her.
After their arrest, the suspects led the police to the remote location where Namkywa’s decaying remains were discovered. The case has drawn widespread attention, sparking renewed calls for stronger security measures to protect vulnerable traders in rural areas.
