Man, 58, dies after drinking sniper in Ondo
A 58-year-old man in Ondo State tragically ends his life after a family argument, leaving the community in shock. Police begin investigation.
In a tragic incident in Igburowo, a town within the Odigbo Local Council of Ondo State, 58-year-old Bamidele Omolayo ended his life after reportedly consuming a chemical substance and pesticide, locally known as "Sniper."
The lifeless body of Omolayo was discovered on a remote road leading to a farm settlement after an elderly community member raised an alarm. According to local sources, Omolayo had a heated exchange with a family member prior to his death, during which he expressed intentions to end his life. One source, preferring anonymity, recounted, "I was informed he had a shouting match with his brother and soon after made this drastic decision."
The entire community has been left in shock by the incident. It’s believed that Omolayo left his house early in the morning, trekking some distance before choosing a secluded spot on the outskirts of the community to take his life.
Despite the absence of a suicide note, the residents notified the Ore Area Command of the Nigeria Police. Authorities have since transported the body to the State Specialist Hospital mortuary in Ore, Odigbo Local Council.
Ondo State’s police spokesperson, Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed the case, stating that an investigation is underway to uncover the details behind the tragic event.
