Lawyer confirms Speed Darlington’s arrest
Human rights activist Deji Adeyanju confirms Speed Darlington's arrest and pledges support for his release, calling for an end to the clampdown on freedom of speech in Nigeria
Human rights activist and lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has confirmed the arrest of singer Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington. He revealed this in a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account.
"We are now involved in the Speed Darlington matter. We will do everything to get him freed. Nobody should be arrested by the police for expressing their views or opinions. We urge the authorities to stop the clampdown on freedom of speech in Nigeria," he said. In another post, he also took a jab at Burna Boy, stating, "You can’t be singing against oppressors and still be an oppressor." He later updated that Speed Darlington had been found, saying, "We have just located Speed Darlington and we are working on getting him freed. The attack on freedom of expression in Nigeria must stop."
