Lamare Bogarde closes deal with Aston Villa

Lamare Bogarde and Aston Villa are done settling on a new long-term deal. Nottingham Forest has a well-documented interest in the 20-year-old defender, but boss Unai Emery wants the player to stay at Villa Park since Diego Carlos' future is uncertain and the team will likely find a replacement if he leaves. Nevertheless, it is now anticipated that Bogarde, who can play both center defense and holding midfield, would remain and compete for first-team football rather than go on loan.

The defender, who was born in the Netherlands, was the only player to play the entire ninety minutes in Wednesday's 3-2 victory over Athletic Bilbao for Villa.

Prior to returning for the first half of the current season, he joined the League One team in the second half of 2022–23 and made 36 appearances during two separate loan stints with Bristol Rovers. On August 17, Aston Villa will play their first Premier League matchup against West Ham United. Eight summer additions have strengthened the Midlands team's roster thus far as they get ready to play in the Champions League the following year.
