Lagos Indigenous Youths Reject Seyi Tinubu’s 2027 Governorship Endorsement
Lagos Indigenous Youths reject Seyi Tinubu’s 2027 governorship endorsement, calling it anti-democratic and a threat to their rights. They urge Lagos’s traditional rulers to resist political manipulation.
The Coalition of Lagos Indigenous Youths has strongly rejected the endorsement of Seyi Tinubu for Lagos State governor in the 2027 elections. This follows an announcement by the Coalition of Nigerian Youth Leaders (CONYL), a group representing youth organizations across Nigeria, which had endorsed Tinubu during a meeting held in Owerri, Imo State.
In a statement signed by Abdul Kareem Whyte, the Lagos youths criticized CONYL’s endorsement as “anti-democratic” and an affront to the rights of Lagos State indigenes to self-governance. They emphasized the need for true Lagos indigenes to occupy leadership positions, claiming that since 1999, Lagosians have faced marginalization, with only one indigene assuming the governorship in that period.
The statement further argued that Lagos’s development has stagnated, with hinterlands neglected, roads in poor condition, and the state burdened by debt. It also warned against political manipulations, urging traditional rulers like the Oba of Lagos to resist external influences and reject attempts to legitimize non-indigenous candidates.
The group also suggested that Seyi Tinubu, a native of Osun State, could exercise his political ambitions in his home state or other regions willing to benefit from his experience. They vowed to resist any attempts to impose non-indigenes on Lagos in 2027, calling for a focus on equitable governance and development for Lagosians.
