Kunle and Aremu Afolayan Reconcile After Years of Family Feud at Mother’s Wake

Nigerian filmmaker Kunle Afolayan has reconciled with his younger brother, Aremu Afolayan, putting an end to their long-standing feud during the wake-keeping ceremony for their late mother in Oyo State on November 22, 2024.

The sons of legendary filmmaker Ade Love had been at odds for years, with their rift becoming public in 2018 when Aremu claimed that their late father lived in poverty despite his fame. Kunle responded sharply at the time, calling Aremu “stupid” during an interview.

However, the brothers buried the hatchet in an emotional moment during the ceremony. Addressing the gathering, Kunle referred to Aremu as more than just a sibling. “I am not his brother but his father. I trained him, and I am 10 years older than him,” Kunle said, adding, “Love conquers all.”

Aremu also offered a heartfelt apology to his brother. “My greatest joy today is that my mother made us talk. She never stopped praying for me, even when I was the black sheep of the family,” he said. Reflecting on their disagreements, Aremu expressed regret for the social media backlash Kunle faced because of him, saying, “It’s because I love you.”

The reunion has sparked hope among fans for a renewed bond between the brothers, who both inherited their father’s creative legacy.
