Kenny Ogungbe opens up on Blackface and 2Baba’s ‘African Queen’ feud
Kenny Ogungbe reveals shocking details about the African Queen controversy, shedding light on Blackface’s uncredited role and the feud with 2Baba.
Renowned music executive and CEO of Kennis Music, Kenny Ogungbe, has stirred fresh controversy with surprising revelations about the timeless hit African Queen.
Speaking on the Honest Bunch podcast, Ogungbe delved into the long-standing feud between former Plantashun Boiz members Blackface and 2Baba. The dispute, which has lingered for years, revolves around ownership and royalties for the 2004 classic.
Ogungbe shared that Blackface, not 2Baba, was the first among the group to release solo music. However, his contributions to African Queen were omitted when the song was officially registered under 2Baba’s name with Broadcast Media Incorporated (BMI) in the United States.
“I’ll tell you something most people don’t know,” Ogungbe said. “I gave Plantashun Boiz a contract to sign, but they never returned it. The first person to release music was Blackface, but it wasn’t until we dropped African Queen that things took off—and his name wasn’t on it.”
Blackface has long accused 2Baba of profiting from the song without giving him due credit, a claim that has led to public drama, legal battles, and a divided fanbase.
Ogungbe’s comments provide fresh insight into the conflict, appearing to validate Blackface’s grievances.
African Queen, a song that propelled 2Baba to international fame, remains a symbol of the ongoing struggle for fair recognition and royalties in the music industry. Its legacy continues to spark conversations about creative ownership and transparency.
