Kazim Adeoti responds to backlash over marriage to Mercy Aigbe
Kazim Adeoti defends his marriage to Mercy Aigbe amidst criticism, citing his Muslim beliefs on polygamy and emphasizing the importance of staying focused on his work.
Nigerian filmmaker and marketer Kazim Adeoti has addressed the wave of criticism he faced following his marriage to actress Mercy Aigbe. The couple’s union, which was publicly revealed by Mercy in January 2022, sparked controversy when Kazim’s first wife, Funsho Adeoti, accused Mercy of "taking him away."
Speaking in a recent interview at the National Film and Video Censors Board conference in Lagos, Kazim explained that his decision to marry a second wife is rooted in his Muslim faith, which permits polygamy. He responded to public backlash, emphasizing that as a public figure, he cannot control the opinions or narratives surrounding his personal life.
“When you find yourself in the public domain, you cannot really control a whole lot of opinions or narratives,” Kazim shared. “What is most important is for you to be focused and, at the end of the day, the end justifies the means.”
Despite the controversy, Kazim remains steadfast in his professional journey, focusing on his work and long-term goals, confident that his efforts will eventually speak for themselves. His comments have reignited broader conversations around polygamy and societal expectations within Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
