Kanayo O Kanayo Shares Controversial Views on Women and Marriage in Their 30s
Veteran actor Kanayo O Kanayo sparks debate with his remarks on women over 30 being labeled as "prayer points" and a "state of emergency," highlighting societal pressures on marriage.
Renowned Nigerian actor Kanayo O Kanayo has stirred discussions with his remarks about women in their 30s without husbands, describing them as a "prayer point" and a "state of emergency."
During an appearance on the *Soni Irabor Live* show on News Central, Kanayo explained his perspective, attributing this to the choices some women make during their youth.
He stated, *"A young girl at 18, 19, or 20 in university starts dating a very wealthy, often older man. Because he provides her with material comforts—cars, houses—she often dismisses advances from younger peers who could be prospective husbands."*
Kanayo elaborated on how this trend progresses: *"From 22 to 24, they remain with these older men, rejecting younger suitors. By the time they approach their late 20s, the dynamic changes as their appeal and agency diminish. At 28, they become a prayer point, and by 33, they are in a state of emergency, praying for anyone to come along."*
Referencing a personal project titled *After 33*, the veteran actor emphasized how societal expectations pressure women who are unmarried by their 30s. He added, *"And you see them and think they are having fun. They’re not. They are hoping for a breakthrough in marriage."*
Kanayo’s comments have sparked widespread debate, with many questioning societal norms and pressures surrounding marriage and gender expectations.
