Veteran Nollywood actor, Kanayo O. Kanayo, has criticized men who fail to financially support their families. In an Instagram post on Sunday, the 62-year-old actor stated that men who don’t provide for their families “have no right to intimacy.”
Kanayo stressed that being financially responsible is a key part of marriage, adding that men are expected to take care of their households through hard work, as taught in religious texts. He also pointed out that this is not just a social expectation, but a moral obligation.
He further advised women not to shield their husbands from financial responsibilities, warning that it can encourage "laziness and irresponsibility." Kanayo urged young women to carefully choose partners who understand their duties.
He said, "I find it disturbing that some men rely on others to feed them, and even more troubling when women defend their husbands to keep family matters private. But sometimes, this hurts the man’s progress. Every man must provide for his family. If he can’t, he has no right to be intimate with a woman. This is a responsibility. Women, know who you marry."
