Just In- Cabinet reshuffle imminent - Presidency

The Nigerian presidency has finally cleared the air on an imminent cabinet reshuffle, a practice that has recently turned into a highly anticipated event. The public has started calling for reshuffling some ministers in the cabinet, and President Bola Tinubu is likely to oblige soon. Special Adviser on Information, Bayo Onanuga, suggested that the specific timing of the reshuffle is still unknown, but it may occur at any time, perhaps before October 1. This is considered as part of measures to enhance the capacity and reputation of the administration involved, especially with emerging doubts over the competency of all sorts of ministers.

In particular, the pressure has been rising in the APC and the Nigerian populace since Tinubu formed his cabinet in August 2023. It has been suggested that there are serious anti-competitive structures in ministries, such as Education, Health, and Petroleum, that the government needs to sort out in view of the challenges facing the country. Also, other analysts opine that this reshuffle proves that the government is already planning for the 2027 polls by placing supporters in strategic positions.

Some people think that these changes will revive governing; however, other people think that there are more essential problems, and there is a perception that the administration’s economic and political strategies are causes of the disillusionment.
