Joe Igbokwe Criticizes Davido for Comments on Nigeria’s Economy
APC chieftain Joe Igbokwe calls out singer Davido for labeling Nigeria’s economy as “shambles” on a podcast. Learn why Igbokwe demands an apology from the star.
Joe Igbokwe, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has publicly criticized Nigerian singer Davido for discouraging Americans from relocating to Nigeria.
Appearing on an American podcast, Davido described Nigeria’s economy as being in “shambles,” urging black Americans, especially Nigerians, to reconsider moving back to the country. His remarks sparked backlash, with Igbokwe demanding an immediate retraction.
Expressing his disappointment on Facebook, Igbokwe wrote, “My in-law Davido has made me sad by telling the world in America that Nigeria’s economy is in shambles. This is very sad. I will advise him to retract the statement ASAP. Nigeria made Davido. QED!!!”
The APC chieftain’s comments highlight the tension between Davido’s critique of the country’s economic state and expectations of public figures to act as ambassadors for Nigeria.
