Is South-East still part of Nigeria’ – Kanayo questions FG over military presence
Kanayo O. Kanayo questions the heavy military and police presence in Nigeria's South-East, highlighting the humiliation and delays faced by travelers, while urging the government to address the region's challenges.
Veteran Nollywood actor Kanayo O. Kanayo has raised pressing concerns about the Nigerian government’s heavy military and police presence in the South-Eastern region. In a video shared on his Instagram page, the actor questioned why the region is so heavily militarized compared to other parts of the country, sharing his personal experience as an example.
Kanayo recounted a recent journey from Ibadan to Lagos, covering 80 kilometers without encountering a single military or police checkpoint. However, he contrasted this with the South-East, where, he said, it's nearly impossible to travel 200 kilometers without multiple security checkpoints.
“I need to ask this question,” Kanayo said. “Why is the South-East so militarized? The humiliation and delays people endure need to be addressed. On the Enugu-Onitsha road, passengers are often forced to disembark with their hands raised, facing unnecessary scrutiny.”
Kanayo also called attention to the poor state of federal roads in the South-East, asking if the region is still considered part of Nigeria. His poignant remarks highlight the ongoing challenges faced by travelers in the region and urge representatives to take notice of the conditions.
