IGP Egbetokun Addresses Police Extortion and Misconduct, Orders Routine Checks

Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has raised concerns over incidents of extortion and misconduct by certain officers within the Nigeria Police Force. During an address to Assistant Inspectors-General, Commissioners of Police, and other senior officers at a conference in Abuja, the IGP urged leadership to improve supervision at all levels, ensuring officers maintain the highest professional standards while performing their duties.
The IGP also directed units such as the IGP X-Squad, Monitoring Unit, and Complaint Response Unit (CRU) to conduct regular checks on officer activities. He issued a strict warning to those misusing his name for extortion purposes, emphasizing accountability and ethical conduct within the force.
