I wasn’t pressured to become a lawyer like my dad – Falz
In a recent interview, Nigerian singer Falz reveals that he was not pressured by his father, renowned lawyer Femi Falana, to study law. Instead, he was inspired by his father's fight for justice and briefly practiced law before fully pursuing his music career.
Nigerian singer Folarin Falana, known as Falz, recently opened up about his journey into law during an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, clarifying that he didn’t feel pressured by his father, renowned lawyer Femi Falana, to pursue the legal profession.
In the candid conversation, Falz shared how his father's dedication to fighting for justice deeply inspired him. He recalled the reactions he received whenever he mentioned his name, often being met with admiration for his father's work. “It wasn’t pressure, but from a young age, I noticed how people reacted when I mentioned my name. They’d say, ‘Which Falana? Is it Femi Falana? Oh wow,’” he explained. Many shared personal stories about how his father had helped them, further motivating Falz to aspire to emulate that legacy.
Falz emphasized that his father’s impactful work had a profound effect on him, leading him to study law. However, he eventually practiced for only a brief period. “I practiced law for almost two years but started to drift away in 2014 when my music career began to take off,” he noted. This transition highlights Falz’s journey of balancing his familial legacy with his passion for music, showcasing how inspiration can shape one’s path while allowing room for personal aspirations.
