Veteran Yoruba actress Yetunde Wunmi has opened up about the profound sacrifices she made for her career, reflecting on a journey that spans over four decades. In an emotional interview with BBC Yoruba, the 64-year-old recounted her humble beginnings as a stage performer in 1982, under the guidance of Sunday Akinola’s 'Feyi Kogbon' theatre group.
Yetunde vividly recalled a pivotal moment that ignited her passion for acting. "I cannot forget Adelove," she said, reminiscing about the legendary actor. "He arrived in all white, driving a white car, and when I touched his clothes, it felt like I had touched gold. That was the day I knew I wanted to be part of the theatre."
However, her dedication came at a personal cost. She revealed that her marriage ended due to her unwavering commitment to acting. Despite the heartbreak, Yetunde harbors no regrets. “I lost my marriage because of my love for theatre, but I’ve never regretted it. God has been gracious to me, and this path has brought me so much.”
