‘I drum during sex’ – Don Jazzy
Don Jazzy, the renowned Nigerian record producer, opens up about his musical journey on the On The Grind podcast. He shares how his love for music and mastery of various instruments, particularly the drums, shaped his path to becoming a successful producer. Jazzy humorously notes he can drum even during intimate moments, highlighting his passion and dedication to music.
Nigerian music producer and Mavin Records CEO, Don Jazzy, recently shared the origins of his journey into music production during an episode of the podcast On The Grind. He revealed that his deep love for music sparked his career and his proficiency with various instruments, notably drums and bass guitar, played a key role in his growth.
Don Jazzy humorously mentioned that his passion for drumming is so intense that he sometimes drums even during intimate moments, saying, "I can even drum on a woman’s buttocks if I get the inspiration for a beat at that time."
After gaining early experience playing several instruments, his interest expanded while he was in London, where he became determined to pursue production. This led to the establishment of his career in the UK with JJC and the 419 Squad. Don Jazzy’s first major success came with the founding of Mo' Hits Records alongside D’banj in 2004, before launching his powerhouse label, Mavin Records, in 2012.
He also recalled living in the studio for two years with fellow producers Altims and Baby Fresh, highlighting his commitment to music.
Don Jazzy’s journey also includes working as an in-house producer for Kanye West’s GOOD Music label between 2011 and 2013, further solidifying his status as a global music figure.
