‘I didn't marry because of love' – Jaruma
Controversial sex therapist Jaruma reveals she married Ross Fahad Isabor not for love, but to escape backlash for selling aphrodisiacs as a single woman, sharing insights on her motivations and the challenges she faced.
Controversial sex therapist, Hauwa Mohammed, widely known as Jaruma, recently opened up about the true reason behind her decision to get married. Jaruma, who tied the knot with Ross Fahad Isabor in 2018 and divorced in 2021, revealed in an interview on the ‘Issues and Society’ podcast that love was not the motivation for her marriage. Instead, she admitted that the intense backlash she received from the northern community, due to her career as a seller of aphrodisiacs while being single, pushed her to make the decision.
She shared, “There was overwhelming criticism from the North because I was a single woman selling sex products. People couldn’t understand why a single lady was teaching them bedroom secrets for large sums of money. It wasn’t easy. The sex industry is a multi-billion-naira market, and I made N760 million in just three years. Despite the heat I was facing, I didn’t want to leave my thriving business.”
Jaruma explained that the constant pressure forced her into a marriage of convenience rather than love. “I just thought, if marriage is the issue, let me get it over with. I met my ex-husband and married him within a month. He knew it wasn’t for love, but for the relief from the intense pressure I was facing from the north,” she confessed.
In 2022, her ex-husband, Ross Fahad Isabor, publicly distanced himself from her, warning Jaruma to stop using his name to promote what he called her “fake products.” Despite their short-lived union, Jaruma continues to be a polarizing figure in both the media and business world, particularly within the northern community, where the intersection of her business and personal life remains a controversial topic.
