Inspector Dikko Usman of the Nigeria Police Force and other individuals have been charged by the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions with the murder of Chief Fatai Jubril, a Baale member of the Lotu community in the state’s Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area
. The DPP’s advise to the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 2 Command Headquarters, which our correspondent saw on Saturday, contained specifics about the inspector’s indictment.
According to reports, the deceased chief was shot dead on July 15, 2023, in the Ibeju-Lekki neighborhood of Lagos State, in front of his wife, Ejiro Jubril, and teenage daughter, over a property dispute. When our correspondent visited the area in 2023, the widow told us that she was attacked by over 50 thugs, including two Mobile Police officers, while attempting to prevent her husband’s death.
In its advisory, the DPP pointed out that the chief’s medical cause of death certificate and the testimonies of additional witnesses corroborated the cause of death, which was that the deceased had been shot intermittently by one of the mobile police officers that Omotola Adeboyejo had brought to the scene on July 15, 2023. The DPP claimed that the ballistic report connected Jubril’s murder to rounds fired from Usman’s gun, despite many eyewitness accounts claiming that the two Mobile Police officers Adeboyejo hired fired the shots that killed the dead.
