Maresca Defends Chelsea’s gameplay despite Fans Disappointment

Coach Enzo Maresca defended his team, who were ridiculed over the weekend, passionately on Wednesday, saying Chelsea is headed in the right direction and creating a style of play that will benefit them in the long run. Chelsea lost 2-0 to Ipswich Town in Sunday’s match, and the relegation-threatened squad was scolded by impatient Stamford Bridge supporters for continuing to utilize the same build-up and strategy when it wasn’t working.

Maresca stated that he had “100%” faith in his strategy despite the fact that they dropped to sixth place in the standings. He also mentioned that his team is becoming better as they aim to qualify for the Europa Conference League semi-finals when they visit Legia Warsaw on Thursday. “I was not present for what happened two years ago, and I have no idea. Since it’s difficult, I won’t pass judgment. However, we are (improving quickly) this season,” Maresca stated prior to the second leg, in which Chelsea leads 3-0.

“I think we can reach the European semi-final. Yes, for sure it’s not the Champions League, but at the end it’s a European competition.”We have been top four almost all season. Compared to the last two seasons, where the team has been zero times (in the) top four. I think it’s quite clear that the direction is the right one, the style is the right one.”Maresca said he does not hear the abuse from the crowd but added that fan support was vital to the progress of the team, who he believes can make the step up next season.
