Nigerian singer Charles Chibuezechukwu, better known as Crayon, has bravely opened up about his battle with drug addiction, a struggle that nearly cost him his life and led to a stay in a psychiatric hospital.
In a heartfelt interview with YouTuber Korty EO, the ‘Ngozi’ hitmaker shared a harrowing episode in front of his record label's office, where his erratic behavior alarmed those around him. Crayon recalled how his colleague, Rema, played a crucial role in his rescue.
“One day, my manager saw me and was shocked by my state. I told him I’d only smoked weed, but then I started acting crazy,” Crayon recounted. “I walked barefoot to Mavin studio, took off my shirt, and smashed my phone. Calls started pouring in—Rema, BabyFresy—everyone was asking what was wrong.”
Rema, showing immense support, rushed to the scene, prepared to defend his friend. “I was lying on Rema’s lap, and he said to me, ‘Bro, once you pass this stage, you’ll come out great. This is the final battle.’”
The episode grew so intense that Crayon almost jumped out of a moving car. “It was that bad,” he admitted, comparing his ordeal to Mohbad’s situation.
Ultimately, Crayon was taken to a psychiatric hospital in Lekki, where he began his road to recovery. After his treatment, he made his way back to Don Jazzy’s house, reflecting on the battle he had just overcome.
