After Amaka Patience Sunnberger, a Nigerian living in Canada, made threatening remarks about other Nigerians of Yoruba and Benin heritage, the House of Representatives publicly asked the Canadian government to look into and prosecute her.
The scandal started after a woman’s voice was heard making offensive remarks about Yoruba at a virtual conference on TikTok in a video clip that went viral on X.com on Tuesday. Citing supposed “hate” toward the Igbo community, the woman, known as Sunnberger and purportedly from Ontario, Canada, swore to poison Yoruba and Benin anyone she came into contact with.
Federal lawmakers voiced their grave concern over Sunnberger’s remarks in a letter signed by Biodun Omoleye and Tochukwu Chinedu Okere. They contend that the remarks directly jeopardize the lives and security of millions of Nigerians. The letter emphasized how serious her remarks were, characterizing them as incitements to violence and genocide that violated numerous Canadian and international laws.
