Honorable Alex Ikwechegh has issued a public apology after facing backlash for allegedly assaulting a cab driver who came to deliver a package at his residence. Following the incident, which quickly drew criticism from netizens demanding accountability, Ikwechegh took to social media to address the matter.
In a formal statement, he acknowledged his actions, expressing sincere remorse and describing the event as out of character. He stated, “What began as a misunderstanding escalated into actions and remarks I deeply regret, which do not reflect the values and character I strive to uphold, both as a citizen and as a representative of the people.”
He conveyed his commitment to resolving the matter amicably, sharing that he and the cab driver had reached a respectful agreement through alternative dispute resolution methods. Ikwechegh also extended apologies to the Inspector General of Police and the entire Nigerian Police Force for any unintended slight, as well as to the House of Representatives for any reputational harm.
