Halima Hassan Shares Her Grief Journey After Losing Son Rico Swavey

Halima Hassan, the mother of late Big Brother Naija star Rico Swavey, recently discussed her grief and emotional challenges following her son's death in a car accident in 2022. In an interview with Chude Jideonwo, she revealed that losing Rico was especially painful because he was her second son to pass away.

Halima expressed her deep longing for her son, saying she wished he could come back, even if it meant being in a coma. To cope, she keeps his memory alive by displaying his photos around her home and talking to them daily about her thoughts and plans before she leaves the house. "It wasn’t easy for me at that time. All I wanted was for him to come back, no matter what," she said.

She also made a promise to finish the music Rico couldn't complete: "When he passed on, I told him, ‘I will help you finish your music. I won’t let your hard work go to waste.’"

Halima shared that she still has Rico's pictures all over her house. Each day, she smiles at them, says, "Rico, it’s another day for me," and shares her plans for the day before leaving. She prays every morning for the strength to move forward with her life.
