In a tragic incident in Makurdi, Benue State, a woman named Theresa Awuhe, also known as "Tessy," was brutally murdered by unidentified gunmen over the weekend. The attack occurred as Theresa was heading home from her provisions shop near Gyado Villa, close to the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH).
According to eyewitnesses, Theresa was with her relatives around 10:00 pm when the assailants ambushed her. The armed men appeared suddenly, targeting her specifically. One eyewitness recounted that Theresa was shot from behind and then again in the head after falling to the ground and calling out for Jesus. The other women present, including one with a baby, fled the scene in terror.
Despite the violence, nothing was stolen from Theresa, suggesting the killing was premeditated rather than a robbery. The gunmen made their escape without being apprehended.
Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Catherine Anene, has confirmed the incident, stating that an investigation is underway to uncover the motives and identity of the attackers.
