Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun approves N500 million in soft loans for traders and artisans, highlighting their role in economic growth. Additional grants and support announced for grassroots development.
Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has sanctioned the release of N500 million in soft loans aimed at supporting traders and artisans throughout the state.
In addition to this financial boost, the governor presented an 18-seater bus to the State Community Development Council, emphasizing the critical role of trade unions and community associations in fostering sustainable economic growth. "Any government that overlooks the importance of artisans and trade unions does so at its own risk," Abiodun remarked.
The governor made these statements during the 2024 Community Day/World Trade Day celebration at the M.K.O Abiola Stadium in Kuto, Abeokuta. He highlighted that the loan initiative recognizes the significant contributions of community and trade union groups, which have played a vital role in establishing Ogun State as the industrial hub of Nigeria. Abiodun reaffirmed his administration's commitment to driving economic growth through the support of Community Development Associations (CDAs).
Earlier in the event, the Commissioner for Community Development and Cooperatives, Ademola Balogun, announced additional support for grassroots development. This includes grants-in-aid for outstanding self-help projects and subventions or administrative grants to 437 Area Community Development Councils (ACDCs). Balogun noted that community development organizations are essential for grassroots progress, while trade associations serve as key drivers of rapid economic advancement.
Oba Steven Adekoya, the Beje Roku of Oke-Agbo, Ijebu-Igbo, and other award recipients expressed their gratitude to the government for the recognition. Oba Adekoya stated that the gesture serves as a call to action in the pursuit of sustainable community development.
