Gombe State Government and ASUU Reach Agreement to End Strike
Gombe State Government and ASUU resolve strike after approving N947 million for staff promotions and allowances, with academic activities set to resume soon
The Gombe State Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at Gombe State University have reached an agreement to end weeks of strike action following the union’s demands. The strike, which began on September 11, 2024, halted academic activities at the university.
After several meetings, the state government approved N947 million during an executive council meeting chaired by Governor Inuwa Yahaya. The funds will cover staff promotions and earned academic allowances (EAA). With this resolution, preparations are underway for the university to reopen in the coming days.
Deputy Governor Manassah Jatau, speaking on behalf of the governor, expressed optimism that the agreement would strengthen cooperation for uninterrupted teaching and learning at the state university.
