According to PUNCH Gombe State Police Command has arrested a fake police officer, Vincent Ojo, for alleged impersonation and for being in possession of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, commonly known as Igbo.
The spokesperson for the command, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, provided details in a statement on Sunday, February 23, 2025. He reported that the suspect, Vincent Ojo, 52, is a resident of the Old Rukuba Quarters Area in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
According to the statement, “On February 22, 2025, at approximately 9:00 AM, police officers assigned to Operation Hattara, led by CSP Ali Madaki, were on patrol in the Jekadafari area of Gombe metropolis during the end-of-month general sanitation. They intercepted a black Lexus vehicle with registration number GWA79CN, Abuja, driven by the aforementioned suspect, who claimed to be a police officer serving at Force Headquarters in Abuja.”
“During the interrogation, the suspect was unable to provide a staff identification tag, his rank, or the department to which he is assigned. Upon searching the vehicle, officers discovered 495 kilograms of suspected Indian hemp, valued at approximately ₦12,652,000. Additionally, a number plate BWR290AX was recovered as evidence.”

The suspect later confessed that he had purchased and transported the illicit substance from Ajegunle village in Ilesha Local Government Area, Osun State, to Old Rukuba, Plateau State. He then reloaded it with the intention of delivering it to Biu Local Government Area in Borno State.
“An investigation is ongoing, and the suspect will be charged in court for prosecution once the investigation is concluded,” the statement added. The command urges the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities promptly to ensure a swift response.
