Gideon Okeke opens up on reason for beef with Jim Iyke
Gideon Okeke opens up about sustaining an injury on Jim Iyke’s production, highlighting safety concerns in Nollywood and calling for better industry standards.
Nollywood actor Gideon Okeke has shed light on his recent criticism of fellow actor and producer Jim Iyke, revealing the harrowing circumstances that led to his outburst.
Gideon, who previously called out Jim Iyke for negligence, has now explained that he sustained an injury on the set of one of Jim Iyke’s productions. The incident left him requiring two stitches and a recovery period of three months.
The actor expressed frustration over the lack of safety measures in Nollywood productions, referencing a similar incident involving actor Junior Pope earlier in the year. Gideon emphasized the need for improved safety standards to prevent such accidents from becoming recurring issues in the industry.
In his words:
“For clarity, and for my new employers and supporters as we enter a new year—Jnr Pope’s incident this year was one too many. Had I sustained more than these two stitches on Jim Iyke’s production, I wonder if people would still label me a fool.
“It’s taken three whole months for my wound to heal, and I remain committed to advocating for SAFETY in the Nollywood workplace. Sometimes I ask myself, why was it me who got hurt? Maybe it’s so no one else has to take one for the team. But Jim Iyke is running from accountability.”
Gideon’s statement has reignited discussions about safety protocols in Nollywood, with fans and colleagues calling for stricter measures to protect actors and crew on set.
