Five dead after shootings in Northern France
Five killed in a series of shootings near a migrant camp in northern France. A suspect has surrendered, and investigations continue into the motive behind the attacks.
A tragic series of shootings in northern France has left five people dead, including near the Loon-Plage migrant camp close to Dunkirk. French authorities have confirmed that a 22-year-old suspect has surrendered and reportedly confessed to the killings.
Four victims—two security guards and two migrants—were fatally shot near the camp, while the suspect also admitted to an earlier shooting in Wormhout, a nearby town. Weapons were found in his vehicle, but his motive remains a mystery.
Dunkirk Mayor Patrice Vergriete condemned the incident as a “cold-blooded tragedy,” while regional council president Xavier Bertrand called it a “devastating event.” Police and emergency teams have increased their presence near the Loon-Plage area, a known hub for migrants attempting dangerous Channel crossings to the UK.
The shootings have shocked the region, raising questions about security in areas already under strain from migration challenges. As investigations continue, authorities are working to determine the connections between the victims and the suspect’s actions.
