Fire guts 2 shops in Anambra market
Firefighters swiftly contained a fire at Mgbuka Obosi Market in Anambra, saving numerous shops. Two stores were destroyed due to a power surge, but no lives were lost.
In the early hours of Sunday, a fire broke out at the mainline of Mgbuka Obosi Market in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, leading to the destruction of two shops. The quick response of firefighters averted what could have been a far more devastating incident, as many other stores in the market were successfully protected from the spreading flames.
Chukwudi Chiketa, the Chief Fire Officer of the Anambra Fire Service, confirmed the incident during a briefing with newsmen in Onitsha on Sunday. He stated that the Anambra Fire Service received an urgent distress call at around 2 a.m., reporting the fire outbreak at Mgbuka Obosi Market. Without delay, firefighting teams and equipment were dispatched to the scene, where they fought tirelessly to bring the blaze under control.
Thankfully, no lives were lost in the incident. The fire, however, did manage to destroy two stores and a provision shop before it was contained. According to Chiketa, a power surge was identified as the cause of the fire, highlighting the risks associated with electrical issues in market areas.
The prompt and effective intervention by the firefighters was crucial in preventing the fire from engulfing more shops and causing greater damage.
